Sunlight

• Morning sunlight of 3-6 hours a day is ideal for flowering and plant grow well in bright light for rest of the day.
• Soil
• The soil should be well drained fertile and rich in organic content for growing Portulaca plant.
• Watering
• Poke your finger/plain small stick into the soil to check the moisture.
• Apply 3 cup(approx.150ml) of water when the top soil (1-2 inch) in the pot feels dry to touch.
• Do not overwater the plant.
• As a rule of thumb, water the plants thoroughly in summer and reduce watering in winter and rainy season.
• Water should be applied preferably in the morning or evening.
• Plant Protection
• Pinch off wilted blooms to prevent the plant from self-seeding.
• Remove dead, infected or damaged plant parts and discard them away from the plants.
• For any insect attack or disease, you can use Neem oil, Eucalyptus oil or Citrus oil spray for primary treatment.
• Check portulaca often for aphids, tiny, green insects that gather on the undersides of the leaves or at the joints of the stems and leaves.


• Donts
• Do not overwater the plant specially when pot doesnt have drainage hole.
• Avoid applying water on flowers it may cause fungus infection.

Portulaca Care

Initial care for 1-2 weeks after receiving plant at your location:

• Keep the plant in artificial bright light.
• Do not re-pot for min. 2 weeks after receiving it.

  Portulaca Special Feature

  Moss rose is a beautiful, bright colored, low growing annual that blooms all summer long with little or no care required.It is one of the very few annual succulents.

  Portulaca Uses

  Ornamental Use:

  • Plant moss rose in a container or hanging basket and let it spill over like a sedum
  • Use moss rose as edging at the front of borders or in the cracks in a rock wall, or the spaces between stepping stones or as a ground cover

  Medicinal Use:

  • The entire plant is depurative
  • It is used in the treatment of hepatitis, cirrhosis of the liver with ascites, swelling, and pain in the pharynx
  • The fresh juice of the leaves and stems is applied externally as a lotion to snake and insect bites, burns, scalds, and eczema

It contains

Potting: Plants do not need any special type of potting soil. Being tropical natives, they do well in any well-drained potting soil, rich with organic material. Use a mix of coco-peat, compost, and sand in a 20:60:20 ratio.

Watering: Overwatering is the chief cause of disease or loss of plant life. Do ensure that you don't overwater them. To get plants to show off their richly colored leaves, it is best to wipe them clean with moist tissue or cloth once every month. In drier months, misting them a few times a week could help improve humidity around the plant, helping them flourish.

Fertilising: Feeding your Plant a few times a year is a good way to get them to stay healthy. Give them some organic liquid fertilizer once or twice a year. Dilute it in water as described on the pack and add a little to each pot as part of your watering routine. If you are using a chemical fertiliser do ensure that you keep it away from the plant and its base.

Light:As a tropical plant that  grows in the humid bright shade of tropical forests, this plant prefers similar conditions when grown as a houseplant. It dislikes full sunlight, preferring bright, indirect sun, such as that offered by north-facing windows. It will also thrive under fluorescent lights.
