Description
Papaya is a popular fruit famous for its high nutritive and medicinal properties.
Papaya plants can be male, female, or bisexual. Papaya is a perennial plant. Rarely, the seeds fail to germinate because seed viability is completely lost in about 50 days. The seed rate is 250 to 300 gm/hectare. It comes to fruit in a year.
A tree can produce 25 to 40 fruits weighing 30 to 60 kg in the first 20 months.

Planting And Care
- Avoid sandy and sticky or heavy clay soils
- Apply fertilizer twice a year, first at the beginning of monsoon and second in the later part
- For the attack of spider mites, aphids, grasshoppers use the prophylactic sprays

- You cant start them in pots as they prone to damage while transplanting
- You can start sowing in the spring, monsoon, and autumn
- Dig a hole half a meter across and fill it with a mixture of compost and soil
- The pits are filled with topsoil along with 20 kg of farmyard manure, 1 kg neem cake and 1 kg bone meal
- Sprinkle few seeds and cover lightly with potting mixture

Care Product Info
Potting: Plant do not need any special type of potting soil. Being tropical natives, they do well in any well-drained potting soil, rich with organic material. Use a mix of coco-peat, compost, sand in 20:60:20 ratio.
Watering: Overwatering is the chief cause of disease or loss of plant life. Do ensure that you don't overwater them. To get plants to show off their richly coloured leaves, it is best to wipe them clean with moist tissue or cloth once every month. In drier months, misting them a few times a week could help improve humidity around the plant, helping them flourish.
Fertilising: Feeding your Plant a few times a year is a good way to get them to stay healthy. Give them some organic liquid fertiliser once or twice a year. Dilute it in water as described on the pack and add a little to each pot as part of your watering routine. If you are using a chemical fertiliser do ensure that you keep it away from the plant and its base.
Light:As a tropical plant that grows in the humid bright shade of tropical forests, this plant prefers similar conditions when grown as a houseplant.It dislikes full sunlight, preferring bright, indirect sun, such as that offered by north-facing windows. It will also thrive under fluorescent lights.

I got few plants from Ugaoo including zz plant. All plants were nice and healthy when they arrive. But started to rot soon. :( Part of them died and some part is undergoing treatment and spl care now. :)Here is my little tip for others, if I could help save few plants:- Unlike normal pots that I use, these are selfwatering pots. So even if you find the soil dry at the top, the soil beneath might still be moist and adding extra water could cause rot. Do check if the tray is already filled with water, or consider if the soil might be moist beneath.What I prefer: I discard excess water in the tray now. only if I have to travel I'll keep them filled. ( And I am not traveling due to covid :P )
